Far too cold for
speedos,
An early winter
upon us
The sky
bluish-gray, snowing
within the scope
of its influence
Mt. Katahdin, the
mountain,
Clouds glowering
down upon us below zero
Drifting snow,
blowing, calling
us to the woods,
to walking in snow shoes.
The season of
Santa Claus coming
footprints of the
moose, the deer,
caterpillars in
the lee, the ice upon them
harbingers of
winter, ice wrapped upon us
an igloo in the
trees, blue, windy,
sparkly under the
icecap, needing
a dog sled, sledding
deeper
longing for fire,
the warmth of home
memories of
Christmas, of family, presents,
Eating ham and
football, of ice fishing,
skating on the
frozen pond, the trees with lights.
All still within,
quiet, in whispers,
when there is snow
on the mountain.
