snow on the mountain – v6

With greater definition
able to see the outlines
of every hill, every crevasse
the features of the mountain
shining, preening,
in the early morning light.

As if standing taller
a picture day at school
Sunday best attire
appointed, hair coiffed
ready for the portrait
an image just right.

Snow on the mountain
tallest in the state
autumn down below
October past peak
but eyes drawn to the mountain
a guardian o’er the land.

Stillness of this morning
silence as I drive
bright sun in the sky
igniting the snow, afire,
the autumn world in shadow
in the valleys below.
