Laypeople, like you and me,
upon them is our faith, our hope
not from the royal priesthood, the ancient bloodlines
from the sea, from the fields, from the shops, the stores
working people, of the land, hands callused,
earning their way, brought to other work by Christ
laypeople, building a church, brick by brick,
in ways beyond imagination, by miracles
in his holy name, raising those who could not walk
bringing his praises into the Temple,
forcing the authorities to face his power
the truth of the risen Lord, with boldness of the Spirit
May we follow their example, and do wondrous things
