Not the shy deer
at the edge of the field
the silent old stone wall
from an earlier time
hiding in the edge of the wood
crumbling to the ground
The leaves of countless autumns
the lichen and the moss
obscuring the once clean edges
the form of the stone wall
when it marked important boundaries
when it kept people and animals out.
