Christ telling them to love
to love as he loved us
something more than words
how he lived his life
Letting Judas go
leaving the upper room
the betrayer into the night
seeking to turn him in
Knowing what was to come
stopping to wash their feet
from the start loving us
beyond our wildest dreams
The words of the new law
a new command upon our hearts
to love as Christ first loved us
an example for our lives
Being both man and God
the Son of the living God
choosing to submit, to go to the cross
giving his life for ours
This was love, with a cost,
knowing he would feel real pain
dying because of our shame
choosing the pit for us
Christ being both God and man
knowing what was to come
yet letting Judas go into the night
knowing what was begun
