An Example

Christ giving meaning
what the ancient words said
why this was a new commandment
not restating the past

The words of the law
what the scholars would have said
to love our God
and our neighbors as ourselves

Christ went further
beyond the mortal choice
to love as God loved
our Savior before us

We are to love one another
not as the ancient code
but to love as Christ loves us
speaking a new word to them
hours before he would give up his life
commanding a new law for us
as Judas prowled the night
