Christ Conquered Death

His cross not the end
the week in sorrow,
from the palms of Sunday
to the ashes of Saturday.

The empty tomb, victory
our Messiah true to his words
that which was torn down
rebuilt in three days

His body brutalized
buried in the earth
His spirit in Sheol
reaching tortured souls

Christ conquered death
rising from the grave
by his power, God’s love
from the pit, Sheol

Alive, in heaven,
at the right hand of God
living within us
the Spirit down below
