(a prayer for our nation’s leaders,
and for world leaders as well)
May the rulers lead
may they govern
with righteousness
with mercy, compassion
with the wisdom of Solomon.
May their first thoughts
their focus, their purpose
be on the weak, the needy
may their rule be righteous
in your eyes, oh God.
May they reach out to the
least
the forgotten, may they feed
the hungry
may the disabled find
welcome
the homeless be given
shelter
in their courts of power.
May their seek to heal
to stamp out all oppression,
slavery,
may their land be renewed
by ending violence,
in whatever form it takes.
May these words of scripture
this ancient song over
Solomon
inform and guide them
to see how to gain true
riches
in this world and the next.
Amen.
