All to Himself

The fortune, his wealth on this earth
gathered unto him
to his bosom,
like a poker player
his arms open wide
gathering in his winnings
from the other side

All to himself
nothing did he share
trusting in his earthly wealth
the earnings of his works
not in the things that last
only in the things that rust
that return to dust

Naked and empty
come the judgment day
nothing in the ledger
coming before the king
trusting in the world
nothing did he part with
yet empty in the end
