Touching the Bread, the Cup

The pastor praying
the words of the liturgy
but it was the way he touched
the loaf, the cup

In giving the blessing
touching the bread, the cup
in reverent gentleness
connected to the holy words

The telling of this story
the truth of our forgiveness
in the bread and the cup
symbols of his life
poured out for us
