the arc of the fox’s door

weathered boards of the barn exposed
the gnawed spot, what was undone
the sharp edges of the human hands
a hole where they had been none
the arc of the shape
the dome of the doorway
the floor and the wall
opened for the fox’s den
the entryway of their home
there where man had not been
long since used for the field, the harvest
the ancient barn long fallow
giving a home for the foxes.
