nothing of March, or October
no winds howling
not the stuff of old snow
crusty on the ground
fissures below
the in-between of November
the land going to rest
a Sabbath for the earth
a calmness, a stillness
dormancy, rest
in the presence of God
the regular turning
a state of idleness
renewing, preparing
from the death of autumn
the slumber after the winds
the cold of October
bare brown ground
calling for the snows
a blanket to cover, protection
for the shoots, buried below.
