As if the people
while subjugated in Egypt
had bound Moses
and brought him to Pharaoh
Worse now, for this was the Messiah
the Savior long foretold
the Living Son of God
Binding their King
accusing him of poison
of blasphemy against God
for daring to speak the Truth
Taking Emmanuel,
God here with us
to the courts of their oppressor
in the Promised Land
Binding Jesus
bringing him to Pilate
Caesar’s representative
in their holy city
Making Christ a martyr
the lamb, carrying out sin
the grain of wheat dying
that we may live
