Watching the fishermen
the ones who followed Jesus
who sought the Messiah
who followed the Christ
Leaving their father, their
nets,
working for the kingdom
continuing yet.
Hands that gathered grain
the seeds that were sown
the wheat that grew
a harvest for the kingdom
Heeding His calling
to go, to make disciples
to the ends of the earth

Not a member of the elite
never sitting, studying in
the Temple
working, with his calloused
hands
the nets, the water, this
was his life
Beginning the church, this
foundation
ordinary men, laity, common
spreading the word
the truth of God’s love
to the ends of the earth
