Turning toward Jerusalem
going with Jesus, the Christ,
with His disciples
on the way
to David’s holy city
On the road covered with palms,
the procession of the King,
going to the upper room
the garden too, Gethsemane,
where Jesus prayed
In the city, the Temple,
calling the leaders
the money changers to task
overturning their tables,
casting them out
There when He was betrayed
when their belief shook
when they doubted
they denied, afraid;
when they ran away
Watching, in our fear,
the false trial, the mob, shouting,
their lies before the Sanhedrin
the shouts to, “Crucify Him!”,
His lashes from Roman hands
His sentence, death
the shame, the gauntlet,
wearing the crown, the thorns,
going to the skull
nailed to the rugged cross
When He died, Good Friday
crying out to God
darkness, the temple,
the curtain torn to the ground
The cross, the grave,
the darkness of the tomb
Glorious Easter
Christ rising from the tomb,
the whole world set to right
