how quickly they burn
the palms of Palm Sunday;
how quickly they turn to ashes
right before our eyes
like the mob of Palm Sunday
singing, shouting, “Hosanna”,
how quickly they turned
with cries before Pilate,
“Crucify!” on Friday.
the only explanation
that people are sheep;
the mob on the street,
and the mob before Pilate.
it is amazing how fast
the palms burn; how quickly
our joy turns to ashes,
how quickly “Hosannas!”
turned to “Crucify!”
