Acrid,
tasting it
filling
my lungs, my spirit
the
smoke, the fire
How
quickly they burned
Still
fresh in my memory
the
smell of the burning palms
the
smoke thick, wrapping round me,
as
our joy burned away
The
ashes gray, thick before us
a
presence, the offering
sitting
on the altar waiting for us
praying
deeply, listening to the words,
reminding
us of Christ’s sacrifice
His
life in this world.
