Words of this scripture,
these words of Christ,
made real, come alive
before Caiaphas,
upon the cross
Christ taught us
to love our enemies
to offer them grace
to turn the other cheek
when the Law said
an eye for an eye,
judgment on them
This scripture come to
life
when we spit on Jesus,
when we whipped the Christ;
He did not fight back
He chose the cross
instead,
the way of sacrifice
Love, God, Emmanuel,
God Here With Us,
suffering, dying;
Choosing the cross
the way of sacrifice
The words of scripture
lived out fully, truly,
an example for us,
to walk more gently
humbly in this walk
