sitting on the floor – v2

stepping through their doorway
a sense of excitement, adventure,
entering a world of wonders
mysteries, history to be told.
 
descending the stairs
into the lower level
entering the children’s room
of the Westfield Athenaeum.
 
sitting on the floor
reading the adventures,
the biographies, the histories,
the mysteries within them.
 
gathering up the books
checking them out from the library
carrying them in my hands
taking them outside
bleeding them within me.
 
the stories, the adventures,
Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn,
John Paul Jones, Davy Crockett,
all of the others, real people,
who I carry with me still.

Sheila Nadile Porath - ty. I was very aware that this was a gift, a singular moment. I very gently lifted the dragonfly from the grass and it was on my right hand. I moved it to my left hand to take the shots and videos. I so wanted it to stay longer but I could tell how nervous it was, as its wings were moving. That was like the white admiral butterfly covered in raindrops a few days earlier. It had shown its nervousness with its tongue going in and out. In both cases, I really had to still myself in spite of my heart racing. Trying to be collaborator not predator to get the shots.

rooms of displays, of artifacts,
our city’s noble history,
documents, records,
kept for the ages.
 
descending the stairs
into the lower level
the children’s room
of the Westfield Athenaeum.
 
finding adventures
in the biographies of heroes
John Paul Jones, Davy Crockett,
those who won the west.
 
within that place of wonders,
treasures, rich meaning,
preserving our city’s history,
our noble past.
 
falling in love with words
finding peace down there
opening new worlds

Within that place of wonders,
treasures, meaning,
our city’s history,
our noble past.
 
Descending the stairs
into the lower level
the children’s room
of the Westfield Athenaeum.
 
Going to my treasured place
following the Dewey Decimal
the section, the rows,
mysteries to unfold.
 
Finding adventures
in the biographies of heroes
John Paul Jones, Davy Crockett,
those who won the west.
 
Falling in love with words
finding peace down there
opening new worlds
descending the stairs…
