Moving from the stern
into the center of the canoe
Lowering my center of gravity
heaving against the wind
Out in the middle
no cover of the shore
Fighting to steer
to guide my path
My body a sail against me
pushing me out to deeper waters
Letting go a bit
to find the calm
the lee of the other shore
Working with the wind
the water in the shadow
The calm by the edge of the lake
Leading me safely home
