Out on the mountain
rich in summer
the greens so deep
almost hurting my eyes
Trying to focus,
also in the shadows
the cedar and balsam
drawing me in
Climbing the mountain
going onward
above the glades and slopes
we skied in the winter
Rivulets flowing
dipping my hand to taste
sensing the peat
the rich earth giving me
something to drink
The birch around me
the evergreen forest
giving way toward the summit
lichen and rock
