Remembering that Story

In raising the cup
the unleavened break
remembering the story
of this people
Christ intoning the ancient rite
the ordinance repeating

Changing the words
from the desert
the Passover
a new covenant
to remember

The cup and the bread
the blood of the lamb
God’s loved poured out
for us all

Saving us by grace
our sin upon him
the lamb climbing the cross
redeeming man for all time
the priest sacrificing once
