The Sacredness of Rest

restorative, as the creator planned
the sacredness of rest
written purposefully
into the cycle of the weeks,
the years, letting ourselves
the earth go fallow

leaving some of the harvest
the gleanings
for the widows, the poor
the foreigners, the strangers
that they may be fed

all of us needing
rest from our labors
just as God made the earth
resting on the seventh day
