Too often in history
on the wrong side
forgetting the words of Jesus
to loose the bonds of oppression
to set the prisoners free
Standing with the tyrants
with them on the ramparts
holding on to power
a blind eye to repression
in the name of security
Needing to remember
God’s message
to love our neighbors
to stand with the hopeless
to set the prisoners free
Our call as a people
to be the salt of the earth
being a light to the nations
standing with our neighbors
in love, humility
Following our shepherd,
our master’s example
to love one another
making tough choices
in the name of liberty
