The seeds of protest
rising around the world
breaking from out of repression
the dictators and the strongmen
The seeds of protest
planted in that sand
the complacency of our leaders
our people, all of us
turning a blind eye
to their corruption
in our own self-interest
but ignoring justice
in the name of security
The harvest coming
the fruits of those seeds planted
the harvest of protest
will judge us
when we allowed
the seeds to be planted
in the sands of that ancient land

hearing claim by President Obama yesterday
in a news conference that when history books tell it
we will be seen as being on the right side of history
in how the United States responded
