The jubilation still rising
the awakening of a nation
history changing
while the world is watching
Yet there are more
many who are not here
the martyrs of the square
who paid with their lives
The hope of this people
the world in their example
a prayer for the martyrs
and those who went to jail
An echo of our own past
when for civil rights they marched
the people charting a new course
the tyrants cast off
No nation is immune
if the people rise as one
heeding the stirring of their hearts
until the battle is done
Trusting in freedom’s call
the voice within
leading to fight for justice
until the people win
