utterly alone

Christ was deserted, abandoned

left utterly alone

even before he faced his trial

captured in the garden, Gethsemane

taken to the Sanhedrin, to the chief priest

utterly alone, betrayed

left to their judgment

the beating before people

and a kangaroo court

utterly alone, denied

left to those in power

Christ in the hands of his enemies

in this long dark night.
