Beginning the Year

in the greens and reds,
the colors of Advent
beginning the year
waiting for the Christ
slowing our days
our steps toward Bethlehem
entering into expectancy
the waiting for the Christ
joining the shepherds
the angels from heaven
knowing the coming
the waiting for the Christ
his humble birth
is close at hand
beginning our year
the season of Advent
the waiting for the Christ
our king coming
down to this broken earth
