under a rock, hidden
a complete cityscape
roads and bridges
hidden from view
an image of wonder
their handiwork, creative,
roads, side streets, and
big highways between
the entrances to their homes
below
their little world revealed
a maze of tunnels, of tracks
beneath the leaves, the
pebbles
disruption, chaos, in the
turning
the rolling away of the
stone
exposing their world to
inspection
the heat of the sun, the
light,
pale citizens of the world
of the darkness
exposed from under a rock;
sounding an alarm, defensive
-
Hide, hide deeper, they cry!
