Ancient words of prophecy
foretelling his birth
the lowly virgin
the town where he lay
The village of his heritage
the root of his line
all of them come together
in the Christ, the first-born
So hard to imagine
the world’s response to him
the powerful, the leaders
the people far and near
So many expectations
defined by the world
not paying attention
to the promises revealed
God’s plan worked out
his promises he kept
the birth of our savior
just as scripture had said
Coming to earth
to redeem the whole world
dying and rising
just as God had foretold
