With our hands empty
like the Pharisees, the others
the bridegroom coming
with us with empty lamps
Are we truly ready
believing in the Christ-child
the one who had been foretold
the Messiah’s holy birth
Needing this season
the guiding of his star
needing the days of waiting
to prepare our doubting hearts
Will we be ready
when he comes down to the earth
in victory this time
no humble manger birth
