Crushed in the Realization

The Rich Man deflated
staring at his poverty
crushed in the realization
that he could not follow

Christ there before him
calling to him, “Come”
but he could not follow
his possessions all around

How terrible that moment
life Marley before Ebenezer
the same harsh judgment
staring in his face

The mirror of his life
yet unable to shake the chains
carrying them with him
heavy, to the grave
