Dirty Shepherds

Not to the elite
not those in power
Christ coming first
to those on the margin

Dirty shepherds,
astrologers from afar
coming before the Christ-child
following his star

All the prophecy
the sages knew so well
yet denying the Christ-child
too much for them to bear
knowing the changes
his coming would compel
