hearing the ancient words
the Emmaus story
of those two disciples
on the long road home
not far from Jerusalem
but miles from Palm Sunday
the darkness and confusion
in spite of the words of the
women
this tumultuous Easter
morning
hearing the ancient words
putting ourselves in their
place
lost, on the road, heading
home
trying to imagine what they
felt
when Jesus came up beside
them
when the risen Lord walked
with them
trying to imagine their
amazement
the simple act breaking the
bread
when Christ’s presence was
revealed
