I remember so clearly,
the woman at the well
challenging the One
with immediate questions,
thinking in the now,
what she wanted, asked for
was temporal, fleeting,
it would evaporate, literally
Christ offered more, so much more
but she could not see, no vision,
no more than the Pharisees, the scribes
those versed in the Law
Christ was new wine, she was an old skin
and all she wanted
was the bucket, the drink
of plain, cold water
