these two disciples
not yet believing
in life, in the resurrection,
though they had heard
the women’s testimony
that they had met angels
who said Christ was alive
walking home, despondent
on the Walk to Emmaus
a stranger opening scripture
needing His teaching
needing to hear the ancient
words
from the mouth of Jesus
unable to see Jesus
hearing Him as a stranger
only given eyes to see Jesus
so they could be a witness
to share the risen Christ
our Lord and Savior
to run to share with others
the Good News of Christ
