Christ there on the cross
praying for God’s forgiveness
on them, on all of us
those who could have spoke
those who stood silently by
as guilty as those who accused him
those who wanted him to die
as they hung on the cross
Christ and the two thieves
one of them spoke to him
asking for mercy
for the forgiveness of God
Not a specific form
no embellishment, formality
forgiven from the depths
from the wellspring of God’s heart
