May She Rise Like a Phoenix

We lift up our sister, our daughter
one of God’s beloved children
to young to be lost, in the miry clay
the ashes, the dust, the chaos of this earth
trapped in situations, lack of trust
harmed by those who should love
neglected, abused, mistreated
pulled this way and that
hurt deepest by family, by blood
now set apart, made safe

We lift up our sister, our daughter
one of God’s blessed children
Oh let this be for her a time of healing
of walking anew, with You, Lord
let God rest hands upon you
lifting you up, flying, we pray
may she rise like a phoenix, alight
from the fire, the ashes, the earth
rising in love, new heights, your love
new hope, a future, grace filled, renewed
