As for Lazarus

As Jesus cried for Lazarus
how much more
did God cry for the death
the atoning sacrifice
of Christ for our sins

The high priest crying
tears in heaven
the one priest sacrificing
himself on the altar
dying that we may live

God providing substitute lamb;
Christ becoming the sacrificial lamb
with no substitution;
the pain of the Father on Good Friday
when his son died for us.

one sacrifice for all time

“Jesus wept” for his friend Lazarus,
though he knew he would rise

Rachel crying for her children
who are no more
