The two commandments of Christ
the law for eternal life
simple and straightforward
seemingly loud and clear
The words starkly written
without sinew or blood
like the dry bones in the desert
Christ giving them life
The rest of the story
in how we must walk on the earth
a friend to each stranger
to anyone in need
Love leads to life
that is the message
the commandments mean nothing
unless we live them out in life.
