Killing His Son

Through the hands of men
not his hand on the knife
the lamb the sacrifice
God killing his son

The unblemished lamb
the holy only son
carrying our stain
becoming the sacrifice

Such a moment, unimaginable
giving his life for ours
bringing us back to life
through his loving sacrifice

Abraham faithful in sacrificing
his first born son Isaac,
God providing substitute lamb;
Christ becoming the sacrificial lamb
with no substitution;
the pain of the Father on Good Friday
when his son died for us.

Christ was the one priest able to make
one sacrifice for all time

John 11:35
“Jesus wept” for his friend Lazarus,
though he knew he would rise
&
Jeremiah 31:15
Rachel crying for her children
who are no more
