God Wept

Like Mary and Martha
like Rachel for her children
like Christ weeping for Lazarus
God wept for Christ

His sacrifice infinity
God descending to Sheol
the lamb going to the cross
that we may live again

Though God knew of his rising
like Jesus with Lazarus
the pain too deep to imagine
for the sins of another
putting your child to death

Abraham faithful in sacrificing
his first born son Isaac,
God providing substitute lamb;
Christ becoming the sacrificial lamb
with no substitution;
the pain of the Father on Good Friday
when his son died for us.

Christ was the one priest able to make
one sacrifice for all time

John 11:35
“Jesus wept” for his friend Lazarus,
though he knew he would rise

Rachel crying for her children
who are no more
