Unlike Abraham

No angel to spare him
no lamb to sacrifice
unlike Abraham
God paid that price

Sacrificing his son
the unblemished lamb
painted with our stain, our sin
offering himself for us

God suffering instead
the parent of the one
who came to cleanse the earth
to heal us once again

Abraham faithful in sacrificing
his first born son Isaac,
God providing substitute lamb;
Christ becoming the sacrificial lamb
with no substitution;
the pain of the Father on Good Friday
when his son died for us.

Christ was the one priest able to make
one sacrifice for all time

though he knew he would rise
