I was silent
as were many others
not willing to claim
His words
God’s words of creation
the distance to me
keeping me mute
The words to stark
in the way presented
speaking God’s power
the authority of the One Creator
as if we were the same
The language of scripture
claiming we are like God
not just in his image
and maybe that is
my problem
My clay and God’s infinity
so far from one and the same
I am the created
made by his words
the dust of the earth
and the breath of Almighty God
