An indictment in the scripture
as surely as in Dickens’ tale
A Christmas Carol
oh poor Ebenezer
The whole of our society
a generation of the self-made
the delusion we are islands
within the stormy seas
Gathering to us,
more toys, more wealth
casting aside our neighbors
let them fend for themselves
The parallels with the rich man
that detestable fool
building new barns over old ones
a scaffolding of errors
committing great sin
in forgetting our neighbors

Luke 12:15
“And he said unto them, Take heed,
and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth
not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.”
Luke 12:16-21
