Power in Christ’s Prayer – v2

Lifted unto God
yet in a sense to Himself
sent by the Father
to him to return
Christ’s urgent prayer,
the first of Seven Words
the gathered statements of Christ
hanging on the cross for us

Beginning in prayer
for the collective them,
for each and every one of us
Christ seeking to intercede
asking God to forgive us
a prayer to our Father
our Advocate, the High Priest,
the Lamb upon the cross

Meaning in Christ’s sacrificial prayer
agape love, for all of them
those who actively tormented
yet not just for them,
who persecuted his human flesh
those around the cross itself
a richer intent, praying broadly
for them, for all of us

Praying for each of us
all people throughout time
each of us sinning,
causing him to die
that we too would cry out
like the good thief would
that we would repent in time
accepting God’s offering
