I Pray

The words captured as he spoke them
not some past distant
continuing now, to this time
out of the depths of God’s love
wanting us gathered in with them
down throughout time
Christ’s prayer, “I pray”,
including you and I,
all who believe as they did
those in the upper room
all believers since that day
until the end of time.
