Facing the Judgment Seat

What will we say, would we know
how to grasp that moment
coming to the altar
to the throne of grace
Woe to any one of us
coming before the judgment seat
the book of our life open,
ripped open, exposed
the pages written in Christ’s blood
his sacrifice, the choices we made
in the ink of the Son
poured out for us
but what choices did we make
with the freedom he gave us
freed from the curse, the chains
of our sins of the past

What will we ever say, to Christ
our servant-King, his mercy
his compassion, giving us life
undeserved, for we yet sin
spitting in his face, denying him still
Standing, kneeling, before God with our barns
overflowing, investments,
our useless treasures of the earth
balance sheets brimming, nothing
while our brothers, our sisters
our neighbors, around the earth
crying out in pain, hungry
No food for them tonight
dying in the streets, our barns full
overflowing, abundance

This land of milk and honey
barns full, overflowing
a virtue of greed, avarice, hate
denying God, the source
of all we see and have
paid with the price
the cost of Calvary
God’s mercy seat, crying
Thinking, delusion, a lie
that we are self-made
the source of our wealth
that we have no duty
to keep all for ourselves
the blood on the page
the stain of our choice, our walk
written by Christ, in the blood of his life
