The Law of Christ

A new commandment
covenant, by the blood of Christ
to love as he loved
our neighbors, our life
new words of God
reforming the old law
the Commandments of God
given new urgency, meaning

Ancient words which were written
carved by God’s own hand
handed to the people
spoken Moses before them
conveying God’s law
how to love the Creator
how to love one and all
to live in community

The new commandment richer
not to love your neighbor as yourself
but to love as Christ loved,
as he loves us still
sacrificing himself,
even coming to the earth
healing us with his sacrifice,
giving us new life
