An indictment of us all
this land of milk and honey
abundance aplenty
barns full, overflowing
risking becoming moldy
out of our greed
How is America Christian
a Christian nation
believing the lie,
the self-made man
denying the Creator first-place
the source of all we have
How is our avarice, accumulation
more cars, more toys,
larger mansions, Cadillac’s
full silos, barns to overflowing
how is our obscene wealth Christian
faithful to God’s calling
From the beginning, to now
from the story of Cain and Abel
caring for our neighbors,
our brothers, our sisters
from the common purse,
one community in action, love
Not letting any know want
caring for their needs
not keeping the excess
the surplus forever
when tonight could be the night
when God calls us home
How will we answer
the ledger of our life before him
if there is need, want
and our barns are full
standing at the gate
before almighty God
